Biography
Racha Baroud is a Lebanese performer and director. After completing a Master's degree in Theatre Studies at the Sorbonne Nouvelle, she joined Jacques Fontaine's Atelier du Jeu in Paris. She continued her training, focusing on the body and voice, at the Grotowski Institute in Poland, and deepened her performance practice with various masters in Europe, notably Irena Tomazin and Theodoros Terzopoulos.
Racha Baroud's personal work focuses on death, memory and intimacy. She staged her first performance in Paris in 2015, Today was my birthday, a musical tribute to Tadeusz Kantor's Theatre of Death. Passionate about both theatre and film, she trained in documentary filmmaking at Ateliers Varans, where she directed the film Jacques. In 2020, following the explosion in the port of Beirut, she co-directed the documentary Ali, Hachem and Khaled with director Roy Arida.
In May 2022, she will present her first solo work, What if those tears were not only mine? a performance about unconscious heritage, which she will direct and perform. It will premiere in May 2022 at Madina theatre, and will later be performed at the Zoukak Sidewalk Festival in Beirut, and at the D-Caf Festival in Cairo in November 2024.
In 2023, she embarked on performative research into the question of self-erasure in collaboration with patients at the Malévoz psychiatric hospital in Monthey (Switzerland). This performative research will be hosted in residency at La Cité des Arts in Paris in spring 2024.
In 2023, she took part in the creation of the performance Thebes: a global civil war directed by Pantelis Flatsousis, and presented at the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, and at the TPE Teatro Astra. In 2024 she took part in the Aix-en-Provence Biennial as a performer in Chroniques des mondes Incertains, a project initiated by Philippe Boronad, director of the Artefact.lab company, and presented at the Théâtre du Bois de l'Aune.
In June 2025, she takes part in the collective creation Restless Suns, a site-specific performance created in the former Tannous Factory metalworks in Karantina (Beirut) as part of the 10th anniversary of Studio Amalgam.
Since meeting in 2024, she has formed a duo with electroacoustic music composer Kinda Hassan, focusing on the creation of sonic performances. Together, they direct their first performance, When adjusted to Darkness, which will premiere on 22 November 2025 in Athens as part of the MIR Festival.
Since 2018, she has been part of the Studio Amalgam Team, a space dedicated to the performing arts in Beirut.
Biographie
Racha Baroud est performeuse et metteur en scène d’origine libanaise. En parallèle d’une maîtrise en Études Théâtrales à la Sorbonne Nouvelle, elle intègre l’Atelier du jeu de Jacques Fontaine à Paris. Elle poursuit sa formation concentrée sur le corps et la voix à l’Institut Grotowski en Pologne, et approfondie sa pratique performative auprès de divers maîtres en Europe notamment auprès d’Alessio Castellacci, d’Irena Tomazin, ou de Theodoros Terzopoulos.
Pour ses créations personnelles, le travail de Racha Baroud s’articule autour de la mort, de la mémoire et de l'intime. Elle monte son premier spectacle en 2015 à Paris, Aujourd’hui c’était mon anniversaire, un hommage musical au théâtre de la mort de Tadeusz Kantor.
Passionnée tant par le théâtre que le cinéma, elle suit une formation de réalisations documentaires aux Ateliers Varans où elle réalise le film Jacques. En 2020, suite à l’explosion du port de Beyrouth, elle coréalise le documentaire Ali, Hachem et Khaled avec le cinéaste Roy Arida.
En Mai 2022, elle présente son premier solo Et si ces larmes n’étaient pas que les miennes?, un spectacle autour de l’héritage inconscient, performance qu’elle dirige et interprète. La première aura lieu en Mai 2022 au Théâtre al Madina, et le spectacle sera accueilli en décembre au Zoukak Sidewalk Festival à Beyrouth, et au Festival D-Caf au Caire en Novembre 2024.
En 2023, elle entame une recherche performative autour de la question de question de l’effacement de soi en collaboration avec les patients de l’hôpital psychiatrique de Malévoz, à Monthey (Suisse). Cette recherche performative sera accueillie en résidence à La Cité des Arts de Paris au printemps 2024.
En 2023, elle participe à la création du spectacle “Thebes : a global civil war” dirigé par Pantelis Flatsousis, et présenté au Athens & Epidaurus Festival, et au TPE Teatro Astra. En 2024 elle participe à la Biennale de Aix-en-Provence comme performeuse dans Chroniques des mondes Incertains, projet à l’initiative de Philippe Boronad, directeur de la compagnie Artefact.lab, accueilli au Théâtre du Bois de l’Aune.
En juin 2025, elle participe à la création collective de Restless Suns, spectacle in-situ créé dans l’ancienne usine de métaux Tannous Factory à Karantina (Beyrouth) dans le cadre de l’anniversaire des 10 ans du Studio Amalgam.
Depuis leur rencontre en 2024, elle forme avec la compositrice de musique électroacoustique Kinda Hassan un duo axé sur la création de performances sonores. Ensemble, elles montent leur premier spectacle When adjusted to Darkness dont la première aura lieu le 22 Novembre 2025 à Athènes dans le cadre du Festival MIR.
Depuis 2018, elle fait partie de l’équipe du Studio Amalgam, espace dédié aux arts de la scène à Beyrouth.
