Brief interviews with hideous men
Assistant directorBrief interviews with hideous men originated from a series of short stories. Through the narratives, the men give voice to the darker parts of their personality, in stories that are sometimes tragically funny, sometimes frightening or downright disturbing – but always poignantly banal and familiar. By revealing the things that shame them, and that make them who they are, the men invite us to probe deep into ourselves, and our own ambiguity.
The piece confronts the spectator with himself inciting him to reflect on his own position; the position from which he looks at the world, both metaphorically and physically, and as an active observer welcoming the stories he hears. We present a narrative, a fiction that speaks of our lives, within the frame of a precise device that provokes at the same time a sense of closeness and belonging, as well as isolation.

est, au départ, un recueil de nouvelles dont certaines donnent la parole à des hommes révélant la part sombre de leur personnalité, parfois tragiquement drôle, parfois effrayante voire carrément dérangeante, mais toujours si tristement banale et proche. Ainsi, en révélant l’inavouable qui fait d’eux ce qu’ils sont, ces hommes nous invitent à sonder et repenser notre propre ambiguïté.
Ici, nous cherchons à mettre le spectateur face à lui-même en l'incitant à réfléchir à sa position, à l'endroit de son regard, au sens physique et métaphorique, en tant qu'observateur actif accueillant cette parole. Nous déposons un récit, une fiction parlant de nos vies, dans un dispositif précis provoquant à la fois un sentiment de proximité, d’appartenance, autant que d’isolement.
